KeKenneth Joseph Tenzycki, 69, passed away on January 3, 2017, after a brief battle with cancer. Ken was born May 27, 1947 in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from SS Cyril & Methodius grammar school, and St Anthony of Padua High School in Watkins Glen, NY.
Ken enlisted in the US Navy in 1966 and served his country honorably for four years. His combat experience during the Vietnam War with River Assault Flotilla One earned him several medals, including Navy Achievement Medal with Combat V, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Battle Stars, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross and Civil Actions Medals), and Good Conduct . The loyalty and patriotism he learned in the Navy never left him, as friends and family will attest.
A lifelong resident of Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Ken never met a stranger and was known for helping anyone he came in contact with. He retired from the Metropolitan Transit Authority after 25 years in 2013, relocating to Niceville, FL. Ken enjoyed sports and trips to Las Vegas.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Jean Tenzycki. He is survived by his sister, Patricia Tenzycki, brother Michael Tenzycki and his wife Terri, nephew Scott Tenzycki and his wife Larissa, and children Jazzlyn, Gwendolyn, Lucja and Aurelia, nieces Jessica Tenzycki and Christine Tenzycki, other cousins and friends.
Arrangements are under the care of McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home in Niceville, FL. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted online at www.mclaughlintwincities.com. A private ceremony with military honors will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery on Jan 20, 2017.
